OUR MISSION
We are dedicated to honoring the vibrant cultural legacy of jazz music, as well as its profound impact on other musical styles. Our goal is to achieve this by celebrating its diverse origins and promoting it to a wider audience.
OUR VISION - KEEPING JAZZ ALIVE!
At our core, we see jazz as our heritage – a culture, tradition, and art form that is far from a passing trend. Our vision is to preserve this art form by:
- Introducing new audiences to jazz through education and outreach
- Promoting jazz music and culture through seasonal community events
- Providing a platform for jazz artists to showcase their talent and inspire others
- Developing outreach programs that engage, entertain, and educate seniors, youth populations, and underserved communities in the art of jazz.
“Jazz, of course, is our heritage. Jazz is a culture, it's not a fad.
It's up to us to see to it that it stays alive." Actress Marla Gibbs
OUR FOUNDER
"Jazz lets me be who I am," says Edwin Williams, founder of Jazz Matters, Inc. and accomplished bassist in the Atlanta music scene. With over two decades of experience as a featured bassist for the John Robertson Trio at the renowned Dante's Down the Hatch jazz club in Atlanta, Georgia, Edwin has also performed with major jazz and R&B artists, as well as The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's annual "Soulful Christmas" production.
Edwin's passion for jazz led him to establish Jazz Matters, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, to keep the art form alive. The organization's mission is to preserve jazz as a cultural tradition and art form. Since 2012, Jazz Matters has produced several jazz events in the Atlanta area, including Suwanee, GA Food Truck Fridays, Suwanee, GA Jazz, Blues & BBQ; the annual Jazz Matters at the Wren's Nest summer concert series, Soulful Sunday Jazz, and Sunday Live! A Jazz Experience. These events have showcased more than 70 performing artists and students from various performing arts programs in Atlanta, Marietta, and Perry, GA.
